Tommy Newport hails from Kansas, USA and attributes most of his music to self-taught guitar and his Macbook Pro. At only 18 years old, Tommy Newport really does show lots of potential. To begin with, Newport was releasing songs under the name Milmine, and released the album So Long And Thanks in 2017.
I Forgive You is the first single released under the name Tommy Newport. This song is full of refreshingly cool and laid-back guitar riffs and vocals, suggesting Newport may have a summer hit on his hands. The music video is perfectly paired with the song, showing clips of Newport and his friends skating around LA in the sun. Are you looking for an excellent song to add to your summer playlist? Look no further.
The newest single from Tommy Newport, Violet Days, suggests Newport is far from a one-trick pony. Once again filled with alluring guitars, this bitter-sweet song sings of a tainted relationship, with lyrics including ‘she wanted love / those Violet Days / but I was making it rain right from her face.’
The earlier music from Newport (released under the name Milmine) resembles a sound similar to that of Alex Turner on the Submarine movie soundtrack, with guitar riffs that definitely has similarities with that of Mac Demarco (in particular on the song Vieil Amour). This more mellow sound contrasts with the more ‘Californian cool’ sound of Tommy Newport, and shows just how much potential Newport has.
